Circle of Friends for Kids is a non-profit institution registered both in Kenya and the US to help educate bright needy students in Kenya. The organization was founded in 2005 as a self-help organization and later registered as a Kenyan based Non-Governmental Organization in 2016. Our main objective is to enable determined youth with disadvantaged backgrounds to pay school fees throughout their secondary education. We also aim at providing a channel for similarly inspired people to identify and support such children as we have has solely relied on individual donations.
According to the World Bank 2010, only 29% of the population aged 25 and above had attained or completed lower Secondary School education. This significantly affects the ability of the population to participate in work for pay and the skills and competencies of the population. Further, a report by Afrobarometer in 2020 showed that poverty levels in Kenya were on the rise with nearly a half of Kenyans lacking basic commodities such as clean water, food, medicine and cash incomes due to the rising levels of inflation.
Our program seeks to fight this cycle of poverty by educating at least one person in the household to enable them access entrepreneurial and/or employment opportunities that improve their socio-economic status and that of their household. We focus on educating bright children who struggle with poverty due to variety of reasons such as being orphaned, having invalid/disabled parents/guardians, affected or infected by HIV/AIDS and more recently those who have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the past our program has focused on Secondary education for children in Nairobi and Nyeri counties with the intension of rolling out to the rest of the country. While the government focuses on 100% transition of students from primary to Secondary, we focus on ensuring these children are able to access quality Secondary and higher education and do not drop out of School due to lack of fees.
Our vision is to become an instrument of hope and encouragement to the less fortunate children by giving them the chance to secure a better future through education and guidance, and to become a credible yet noble channel through which able members of our society who have similar intensions can reach out to such children.
To mentor and give grants to children who have been rendered economically hopeless by various life situations including the HIV/AIDS scourge with the aim of alleviating poverty and improving lives of as many children as we can.
Offering financial assistance to deserving children allowing them to access quality secondary and higher education.
Create a community of strong young leaders through mentorship and connections.
Encourage holistic development of our beneficiaries through mentorship, annual meet and greets, annual sporting events and parenting sessions for guardians
